Nearline and Amazon's 'See Inside the Book"

(by Terry Frazier @ 12:21 PM)

Nearline Publishers Inc is now participating in Amazon's 'See Inside The Book" (SITB) program. As part of our ongoing effort to ensure our books are seen by the widest audience possible we now submit full-text files of all our books to Amazon's SITB program.

SITB allows potential buyers to preview books by showing them the Front Cover, Back Cover, Table of Contents, Index, and a selection of inside pages. Many traditional publishers avoid this, I guess scared that if someone sees what's inside a book they won't buy it. We figure if the book is really good, they'll be even more convinced they should buy it. We already show previews in our own online catalog and shopping cart. Participating in Amazon's program is a natural extension.

Nearline Publishers Now Participating in Google Book Search

(by Terry Frazier @ 3:15 PM)

Nearline is now participating in Google's Book Search - the controversial online library of books that has been in the news for the past year or so. Traditional publishers have fought Google's perceived encroachment into their territory, claiming everything from copyright infringement to wholesale theft. Of course, most of these folks have screamed bloody murder about used book sales, too.

At Nearline we see Google Book Search as just one more way to let the public find your book, sample its content, and begin to understand your work. If viewing a few pages of your book online is going to convince a potential buyer that the book isn't worth having, then maybe the book shouldn't be for sale in the first place. We believe the books we publish actually have some value, and that giving people a preview of the content is the best way to let them see that. Our goal is to get our books into the marketplace as broadly as possible.

All books published by Nearline for retail sale will now be entered into Google Book Search.
